Bridging Town and Gown: Effective Landlord/Tenant Programs That Support Students and Increase Community Goodwill

Housing insecurity for college students is a growing issue across the nation. Far from simple, it is a multi-level systems issue that must be addressed at the college level in order to help ensure that students are supported in getting their basic needs met. Through the implementation of a comprehensive tenant/landlord program, colleges and universities can help mitigate housing barriers for student tenants and foster positive working relationships among landlords. Research has shown that combining campus and community resources can improve the climate for both property owners and renters.
